2015 Elections in Oyo State
The battle for the gubernatorial seat in Oyo State looks like a battle from old political flsgbearers. The election will be an event worth watching considering the facts that there are only three mainstream political parties in Oyo State.
There are so many behind the curtain meetings because the political gladiators in Oyo State today were all contestants in the last general elections in 2011 and right now the lection looks like a test of popularity and acceptability.
Political analysts opine that it will be a battle of the Titans if these political giants who were ex governors and the incumbent clash at the polls for the most juicy seat in Oyo State. One additional fascination of the 2015 elections is the very facts that if the elections go by what is seen on ground right now, a new history could be written in Oyo State.
Oyo State is rknowned for active political participation and political Machiavelli in which many significant changes in Nigeria emanated or started from. Oyo State is an important political state in Nigeria and it is on record that there had been no governor who had ever succeeded with a second term bid in office.
Up until now all governors who ever tried it have failed. The roll call of men who tried it consisted of the late Cicero of ESA Oke, Chief Bola Ige, Alh. Lamidi Onaolapo Adesina, Otinba Adebayo Alao Akala, Sen. Rasheed Ladoja all these former governors of Oyo State have tried to stage a comeback to the government house in office and out of office and all failed to win the gubernatorial elections that would see them return to office for the second term in office.
It is of note that right now, the APC group under some auspices are trying to get the imcubent governor of Oyo State, Senator Isiaka Abiola Ajimobi for a second term in office. Like the main belief in Oyo State that no matter how well you serve the state, you do not get a second term in office.
Right now what is on ground like political analysts opine is that will these men really contest and will they be able to rewrite the history of Governorship in Oyo State by they ever returning to office come 2015? One thing that is sure is that the race for the hot seat or the juicy seat of Oyo State is on and the people will be deciding come the elections of the 2015.
We will not consider the merits of the political parties, but one thing that is most certain is that there are three main candidates and they are no push covers in the forthcoming elections. What might work for or against is the public sentiments and voters sympathy for a candidate over the other contestant.
